About LAWPAC

Through LAWPAC, PaTLA's bi-partisan political action committee, members preserve the civil justive system by supporting candidates in statewide elections who believe in the advocacy system, trial by jury & tort recovery.

With your contribution to LAWPAC, you will join your colleagues across the state helping elect to the legislature those who support our positions.  Help us elect and re-elect legislators who will protect the welfare of Pennsylvania's wrongfully injured victims.  Help defeat the allies of "Big Business" and other powerful groups working hard to close the courthouse doors.

What is LAWPAC?
LAWPAC is a registered bipartisan political action trust, established by the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association.  LAWPAC supports candidates in statewide elections who believe in the advocacy system, trial by jury & tort recovery.

Who gives to LAWPAC?
Hundreds of PaTLA members from across the state have made their commitment to LAWPAC.  Some have contributed for nearly 20 years.  Among our supporters are longtime leaders of the trial bar as well as first-year associates.  See the list of contributors.

By law, LAWPAC cannot accept corporate contributions.
Only members of the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association may contribute.

How to contribute
The LAWPAC Trustees policy requires an automatic monthly contribution.  One-time gifts are not accepted.  Each contributor authorizes a monthly deduction from a bank account or credit card.  For an authorization form, click here.

Why monthly contributions?
LAWPAC is equipped to accept only monthly credit cards or bank drafts. This creates a stable and predictable cash flow, allowing us to distribute funds to candidates each month during the election cycle, and to make long range political plans.  In addition, the administrative expense of soliciting supporters each year for another donation is nonexistent.

This system of monthly contributors has proven to be the most efficient and practical way for LAWPAC to operate, and has helped us become known as one of the most effective political action committees in Pennsylvania.

Our contributors have become accustomed to tracking LAWPAC donations on their bank or credit card statements.

The benefits of giving
Your greatest benefit is seeing the positive legislative effects that occur as a result of LAWPAC's ongoing political action.  Your support is recognized in PaTLA's annual Member Directory and now in our online  listings.  You will receive a bi-annual directory of Pennsylvania's legislators and a LAWPAC pin.

How your contribution is spent
Because PaTLA pays all administrative costs, 100% of the LAWPAC portion of your contribution is put to work electing candidates to office who share your interests.  Your contribution is pooled with others from across the state so that it can be used where it is most effective.

How political contributions are made
Contributions to candidates are approved by the LAWPAC Trustees, who are elected by the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association.  Both Democrats and Republicans are represented on the LAWPAC Trust.

Canceling your contributions
Simply send a letter or fax to LAWPAC to terminate your participation.  Processing may take 1 to 4 weeks.

Changing your contributions
Monthly contributions may be increased, decreased, terminated or changed to another account as you wish, as soon as we receive written notice. To change your account or contribution amount, please complete a new authorization form.

ATLA PAC involvement
Unless you indicate otherwise, ATLA PAC will receive $10 of each monthly contribution to support candidates in federal campaigns, giving Pennsylvania trial lawyers important and necessary impact on a national level.  ATLA PAC also manages the collection function, eliminating all collection costs at the state level; approximately $1.50 of the ATLA portion of your contribution goes to administrative costs.  Members of ATLA may learn more about ATLA PAC.
