New Lawyers and Heart Assoc. to put smoking on trial
At Nemacolin Woodlands, Tim Shollenberger,
PATLA's new President, announced that the Association and American Heart Association have
teamed up to fight smoking. During the next year, PATLA's New Lawyer Section and the Heart
Association will conduct mock trials in elementary schools around the state to teach and
warn children about the dangers of smoking and to ask them to pledge not to use cigarettes
or any tobacco-related products.
Already, elementary schools in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia suburbs, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg (East Shore and West Shore), Erie, Allentown and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area have committed to the project during the 2000-01 school year. The New Lawyers Section members scheduling the trials with Tim are: Scott Cooper, Esquire; Kevin Marciano, Esquire; Annabelle Cedar, Esquire; Mark Altemose, Esquire; Michelle Quinn, Esquire; Grant Travis, Esquire; and Jason Matzus, Esquire. Anyone interested in participating in the Heart Association Trials, should contact the New Lawyer member or PATLA office.
Tim is a member of the Board of Directors of the South Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Heart Association and has been conducting anti-smoking trials in Central Pennsylvania for the past five years. It is anticipated that the expansion of the program throughout the state will continue for years to come in these and other cities. Several schools around the state have already expressed an interest in holding a trial during the 2001-02 school year.
