Schroder, Turzai take broad aim at rights of consumers and injured victims with set of bills
(6/15/2005) - On Tuesday, Rep. Curt Schroder (R-Chester County) and Rep. Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) proposed a series of bills that would limit the rights of Pennsylvania consumers and injured victims to the courts. Dubbed “Empowerpa,” the legislative package was unveiled at a Capitol press conference. Included in the package are bills that would permit the General Assembly to set caps on noneconomic damages, set further restrictions on a plaintiff’s ability to recover punitive damages, modify the state’s joint and several law, take away rule-making powers from the Supreme Court, and grant immunity for fast-food restaurants.
