Home News & Case Notes Disabled fighting two battles: ending abuse by caregivers and raising awareness (1/14/2004) - The Philadelphia Inquirer reports today that “victims of crime who have mental or physical disabilities are often victimized twice—once by the criminal and again by a system that is ignorant or unresponsive to their special needs.” According to the article, studies show that 54 million Americans who live with a disability are victimized far more frequently that the general population. Violence frequently comes from caregivers and service professionals. But disabled and victims' rights groups are raising awareness. Click here for article
