House Republicans file discharge resolution to force vote on caps bill
Move described by lawmakers as "unprecedented"
(6/17/2004) - State Rep. Mike Veon (D-Beaver) reported on his Web site Wednesday that House Republicans have filed a discharge resolution to force legislation that would cap awards to innocent, injured victims of medical malpractice to the House floor. According to Veon, if the vote on discharge passes, it will set the stage for an “imminent vote on the caps bill.” Veon said he is vigorously opposing this drastic action to strip away the rights of victims of medical mistakes. Veon reported that every Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee opposed sending this bill to the floor. Even some Republicans have joined them in opposition to it, he added. |
