Letter from Pa. Insurance Commissioner to Senate Committees regarding the number of
Pennsylvania physicians that have paid into the Mcare Fund for the years 1990-2002

(12/2/2023) -- On Nov. 28, the Scranton Times reported the number of doctors paying into the state MCare fund has increased by more than 1,000 since 2000, when premiums began to jump and the supposed “exodus” began.  All doctors practicing in Pennsylvania are required to pay into the MCare system and it is therefore the most accurate count of doctors in the state. The statistics come from a Nov. 3, 2003 letter from  the Insurance Commissioner to the Pa. Senate Banking & Insurance and Judiciary Committees.
