(1/9/2023) -- The New Jersey Law Journal reports that a courtroom showdown is scheduled for later this month over whether a newspaper should have access to notices submitted to the state by insurance companies that pay medical malpractice settlements and verdicts. According to the New Jersey Law Journal, The Record of Hackensack, NJ in North Media Group v. State of New Jersey, is seeking access to the thousands of confidential settlements between doctors and malpractice plaintiffs. The newspaper is arguing that the common law interest in exposing bad doctors outweighs confidentiality provisions. The case is expected to be heard later this month. |
