Doctors can proceed with class-action suit against insurance co.

Physicians and hospitals allege insurer bilked them
out of allegedly late insurance payments

(11/13/03) -Philadelphia Common Pleas Court Judge Gene D. Cohen has certified a class of doctors and hospitals in a lawsuit against Progressive Northern Insurance Co., The Legal Intelligencer reports this week. The suit alleges that Progressive cheated the doctors and hospitals out of interest owed on allegedly late insurance payments, according to The Legal.

In the case of Glick v. Progressive Northern Insurance Co., Judge Cohen ruled that the class met the criteria required under the state rules of civil procedure, according to the Legal. The class will consist of medical providers that were entitled to receive payment for treating Progressive’s injured clients but whose payments were overdue and, perhaps, should have included interest at a 12 percent annual rate, as required under the state Motor Vehicle Financial Responsibility Law, according to the opinion.
