Rendell Vetoes SB 435 -- Abrogation of Joint Liability

(3/24/2006) -- President Nancy Fullam today informs us that Governor Rendell vetoed SB 435, which would have effectively abolished joint liability. In his veto message to the Senate, Governor Rendell cited both Senator Greenleaf and Representative Gannon's efforts - which both failed by only 1 vote, to provide an appropriate balance between business and consumer interests.

Governor Rendell cited correspondence from union and consumer groups as being persuasive.

The people and injured victims of Pennsylvania applaud Governor Rendell for his courage and efforts to listen to the millions of average people who do not have the resources to protect themselves when injured by powerful corporate interests.
