PaTLA Anti-Smoking Mock Trials

The Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association takes its Anti-Smoking Mock Trials to Pennsylvania elementary and middle schools across the state to teach students the dangers of smoking. This successful program is run by PaTLA's New Lawyer Section in conjunction with the American Heart Association.

In each program, the school's principle is put under "arrest" during a school assembly. Students, with the aid of local trial lawyers, then take part in a mock trial that puts the dangers of tobacco-related products on trial.  The students have fun while learning the hazards related to tobacco.
In the end, the students get to decide whether the principal and accomplices go free.  The students are then asked to pledge not to smoke cigarettes or use tobacco. Recent programs have been held at schools in Wilkes Barre, Bethlehem, Erie, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Philadephia and the suburbs.

This year’s schedule is being developed. Please check back for dates and times or leave a note for Kristy Mitchell if you would like to receive email notification when the schedule is published.
